Vice President, Talent Management, Veracode
Alison shared, “Like most companies, Veracode is paying close attention to the economic, business and employee implications of the COVID-19 pandemic. Our executive leadership team continues to work closely to understand the changing landscape and to plan to accommodate. This is where a truly cohesive leadership makes a difference! We have had frequent communication from our CEO and CHRO to keep employees abreast of company news and updates, which are greatly appreciated by employees. We had our first, virtual all-hands, town hall meeting this week, with our entire company participating remotely!”
When asked how it is affecting their business, Alison shared, “our business remains strong and the need for application security is more relevant than ever in the current market. With that said, this outbreak is affecting every industry including many of our customers. We appreciate the gravity of this situation and we are planning accordingly. All Veracoders have been working remotely since mid-March. Early on we formed a cross-functional task force who meet regularly to plan ways to support and inform employees. The good news is that we are an incredibly productive remote workforce and our business continuity plans have withstood the test of 100% remote working.”
She went on to say, “I think those of us who normally work in the office have a greater empathy for remote employees and the challenges they face on a regular basis. We now understand the need to set boundaries when work is perpetually accessible. We have experienced kids underfoot, barking dogs, and the occasional technical glitch that will interrupt a conference call. We also appreciate how much daily transitions (commute/coffee break/travel to a colleague’s office) mean in the course of a day. Without those, we tend to keep working and working….Personally, I’ve always preferred face to face communication and this experience has helped me adapt to communicating virtually (albeit mostly virtual face to face). It has also been interesting that my family has more insight into my work as an occasional “fly on the wall’ in a team meeting or conference call.”
Lastly, she shared, “People are kind and creative. I have seen teams come together virtually in so many remote and fun ways! We have Slack channels dedicated to virtual life and wellness with employees sharing ideas and best practices. Tomorrow my team has a lunchtime trivia gathering (virtually) to get together and share some laughs. Companies are collaborating and sharing best practices on ways to address this crisis. My hope is that the good things that have come from this circumstances will carry forward into the “new normal” post COVID -19.”
